Bespoke Services

At MTIF, we combine cutting-edge equipment, purpose-built facilities, and expert knowledge to offer a comprehensive suite of 2D and 3D tissue culture research services. Leveraging our strong academic expertise and state-of-the-art capabilities, we support clients at every stage of their research journey, from exploratory studies to clinical trial material supply. Our focus is on seamlessly integrating with your workflow to deliver tailored solutions that meet your unique needs.

Our services encompass advanced techniques for tissue growth, including cell isolation, purification, characterisation, differentiation, and expansion. These capabilities enable us to cultivate human and animal tissues in both 2D and 3D environments, supporting applications in areas such as pharmaceuticals, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology. Our researchers have developed innovative methods to model skeletal muscle ageing and repair, enhance insulin-stimulated glucose uptake, and identify genetic markers associated with tissue degeneration.

Whether you’re exploring tissue engineering for healthcare applications or cultured meat production, MTIF can be your partner in innovation. With our integrated expertise and cutting-edge resources, we’re here to accelerate your research and help transform ground-breaking concepts into practical solutions.

Cell, Molecule and Material Interaction

Cell, molecule and material interaction is an essential component in the development of the next generation therapies including Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). Our capabilities cover core discovery techniques utilising both primary derived human and animal cells as well as immortalised cell lines in static and flow bioreactors.

We utilise primary, terminally differentiated and progenitor cell sources to evaluate biocompatibility. MTIF is able to develop in vitro platforms such as 3D tissue analogues, enabling the development of cellular models using tissue-on-a-chip, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats – associated protein-9 nuclease (CRISPR/Cas9) or combinations of both approaches. We are able to fully characterise materials including testing to IS010993

Our Tissue Culture experts

Professor John Hunt

Professor John Hunt

Academic and Research Lead

John Hunt is professor and research theme lead at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) focussing on utilising and building the extensive research power of NTU to address what is required from technology and materials in the short, medium and long term. His research centres on developing breakthrough therapies, devices and technology to repair, replace, augment and in the future regenerate diseased, infected and damaged tissues in humans and other mammals using material interventions. John has cultivated strong partnerships with Miltenyi Biotec and has spoken at numerous events focusing on cell therapy research.

Livia Santos

Dr Livia Santos

Research Fellow, Mechanobiology and Tissue Engineering

Livia’s research lab develops muscle and bone models in vitro to understand the cellular and molecular events associated with ageing, regeneration and exercise. Recent studies on muscle ageing and bone regeneration were published by top quartile journals including the Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine and njp Regenerative Medicine and on hundreds of mainstream media outlets.

Dr Chris Gabbott

Dr Chris Gabbott

Research Fellow, Biological and Genomic Scientist

Dr Chris Gabbott is a biological and genomic scientist at MTIF who engages with a diverse clientele in medical tech. He uses various techniques essential to cell therapy development, blood analysis, imaging, and genomics.

Dr Gabbott has a background in regenerative medicine and has previously worked in the pharmaceutical and clinical trials industry. Transitioning from there, he undertook a role as a Research Fellow at NTU, focusing on Tissue Engineering before moving to MTIF.
