About the EMERGE Project
The EMERGE project is a collaborative effort co-led by NTU alongside the Universities of Nottingham, Loughborough, and Derby, with the support of over 30 partners, including MTIF. This initiative will connect the region’s cluster of 459 MedTech SMEs with health professionals, academics, and the public to overcome barriers in skills, clinical partnerships, and private investment.
By focusing on cutting-edge areas such as:
- Smart medical wearables
- Bioengineering and robotics
- Artificial intelligence
- Sensors, imaging, and medical device materials
The EMERGE project will address widening health inequalities while boosting regional growth and productivity. MTIF will play a crucial role by providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and expertise, bridging the gap between research and real-world application.
A Collaborative Vision
The East Midlands is already recognised as a leader in rehabilitation technologies, with the Government’s £105 million investment in the National Rehabilitation Centre. The EMERGE project builds on this foundation, aiming to transform healthcare and establish the region as a global leader in RehabTech innovation.
As Professor Richard Emes, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and International at NTU, remarked:
“This award supports our ambitions in Health Innovation, where NTU researchers are transforming patient and community care outcomes. The impact acceleration account will speed the translation of applied research into real-world change for the benefit of patients.”
Why Join Us?
These roles offer the opportunity to be part of projects that will deliver significant benefits:
- Accelerating innovation in healthcare
- Improving access to rehabilitation services
- Enhancing patient recovery and quality of life
